Although the Harbor Beach Maritime Festival is definitely aquatically oriented, those who aren’t into water activities shouldn’t shy away from this event. The festival has a wide variety of activities with broad appeal to the entire Thumb area.

One of the most popular of those events is the annual car cruise, which is a great opportunity for area enthusiasts to show of their finest wheels. From vintage cars to supped up vehicles, the Harbor Beach car cruise has some of the hottest cars in the area and is always one of the most popular events of the weekend. The cruise is being held on Friday night at 7:00 PM and is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. In conjunction with this event, there will also be a car show to showcase some of these fabulous automobiles. The show will be held on Saturday from 10 AM to 4 PM.

Another event that has people talking is the trout pond for kids, which is being brought to the festival by “Let’s Go Fishing”. This pond has been added to the schedule this year with the sole purpose of bringing as many smiles as possible to all the kids that attend. Kids will fish in the pond and once they reel one in, will have an opportunity to get their picture taken by a parent with the “Catch of the Day” before throwing the fish back. The pond will be available for young fishermen on both Saturday and Sunday.

One of the other highly anticipated events actually takes place after Maritime Fest weekend. This is the talent show which is being held on Wednesday, July 21st from 7PM- 9PM at the Harbor Beach Community Theatre and is being sponsored by Harbor Drugs.

The show never disappoints as local residents show that the watercraft riders aren’t the only talented performers at Harbor Beach’s famous festival. Last year’s participants performed a variety of acts that ranged from musical acts to vocal performances to performers playing trash cans like drums.

The talent show has three separate age brackets for competitors which include 16 and younger, 17 to 25, and 26 and older. These three groups should bring in talent of all ages and should make this one of the best shows the festival has seen in years.

The event is being hosted by Jon Fruytier and an audition will be held for interested acts prior to the day of the show. For those who want more information on being part of this showcase of talent, should call 989-479-3363.

Other family friendly activities scheduled for the Maritime extravaganza include a pet parade on Friday, July 16th and children’s games and face painting on Saturday the 17th. Information for these events can also be obtained by calling 989-479-3363.

So even if water activities aren’t your thing, the Maritime Festival has enough other activities going on to make the mid-July event a must attend for all Thumb area residents.
